Language & Phonics
Building on the Foundation
- The fours curriculum is connected to the end of the three’s curriculum and builds upon that foundation enabling the fours to begin reading. The first semester we blend initial consonants with the vowels, and in second semester we begin to read short words and sentences.
Pre-writing and Writing
Beyond Small Motor Development
- Even though small muscle development continues in fours, they are enjoying their ability to better control their markers, crayons, scissors, and paint brushes. Eventually, the children receive a fat tri-sided pencil giving them the opportunity to trace the alphabet, numbers, and their names.
- Each morning, the children enjoy their Bible time as we study favorite heroes and events from the Old and New Testament. As the stories unfold, we discover together and apply the biblical values of kindness, love, obedience, respect, and truthfulness throughout the day. Our Bible time involves singing, stories, memory verses, colorful illustrations, dramatization, and crafts.
“1-2, Buckle my shoe; 3-4 open the door . . .”
- When you ask these children, “How old are you?” they proudly smile and hold up little fingers. Counting is so much fun! Our goal is to enable them to count and recognize the numbers and understand the concept of one-to-one correlation. They have a delightful numbers workbook, and a puppet friend called Button Bear that helps reinforce their lessons. Other cognitive skills are developed, such as sorting, sequencing, classifying, evaluating, matching, measuring, geometric shapes, logical thinking, problem solving, etc.
- There isn’t a sweeter sound echoing down our hallways than the voices of little children singing. Not only do the children sing daily with their teachers, but also have the advantage our regular visit from our Little Virtuoso’s and Musical Maestro’s teacher. The children develop musical skills by listening, clapping and marching to music, playing the rhythm instruments, practicing and participating in our Christmas and spring programs.
- What could be more fun than little hands squishing play dough, or finger painting with shaving cream? Participating in arts and crafts opens up a wide range of activities for our children to explore and create. They will experiment with the various media available crayons, markers, paint, clay, glue, brushes, sponges, scissors, papier-mâché, etc.
Science & Social Studies
- Most preschool and kindergarten children live in a small universe surrounding their home, school, church and community of friends. As they develop they become more aware of the rest of the big world they live in and desire to explorer and discover it. Our school satisfies their quest through thematic studies throughout the year about weather, seasons, animals, planting, health, safety, community helpers, American holidays, international days, field trips, and many more topics relating to the world around them. Our kindergarten students observe the marvel of the solar system, and the mysteries of the underwater world.
- Running, jumping, climbing, balancing and energetic movement is essential to the muscle development and fitness of our children. Daily our preschoolers and kindergartners play outdoors on our newly built playground (weather permitting); or they play in our indoor playground and tunnels.
Personal Life Skills
- A well-rounded education for preschoolers and kindergartners includes social and personal character development. The Bible proclaims in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Our school parents often tell us that the character development is one of the things that attracted them to our school; because they are working to instill in their children’s lives at home the same principles that we try to instill in their hearts at school. The school becomes an extension of the home. We look to the future. They will not remain small children; they eventually will grow into elementary students, then teenagers, and then young adults. Now is the best time to teach biblical values, good manners, cooperative interaction and communication with others, study skills, and proper work ethics. Our administration, teachers and staff are committed and unified to this important mission.

Communication & Participation
How will I know how my child is progressing in school?
- Daily: Each day you can expect to see your child’s projects and talk to the teacher in the classroom. We also send lots of helpful information home in the child’s backpack. You are also welcome to contact your teacher through email, notes and voice mail
- Regular Updates: You will stay informed on your child’s progress through regular progress reports and reports cards.
- Anytime: You can schedule a Parent & Teacher Conference any time of the year; we also set aside dedicated days just for these.
The administration, teachers and staff understand that parents have natural worries about their child’s adjustment to school, safety, academic progress, and social, emotional and physical development. We are here to help answer those questions and assist parents through the ever changing early childhood years.
New families to our school enjoy a home visit from their child’s teacher. This special time enables parents and teachers to get acquainted, and give them the opportunity to discuss their child’s individual needs.
Schaumburg Christian Preschool and Kindergarten is family friendly. We encourage parents to get involved in classroom activities such as: field trips, parties, arts & craft projects, special days, reading groups, etc. We welcome your visit!
What is the schools cut-off date?
In order to enter Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten a student must be the appropriate age on or before November 1st. For Pre-3’s a student must be 2 years and 9 months before enrolling.
What are the Extended Care operating hours?
Extended Care is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (lunch and an afternoon snack are provided).
Extended Care continues operating daily through most school holidays (parents can obtain a copy of the school’s yearly calendar).
What are the school’s operating hours?
- Half-Day Preschool - 8:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (TTH, MWF, M-F)
- Full-Day Preschool - 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (TTH, MWF, M-F)
- Half-Day Kindergarten - 8:15 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
- Full-Day Kindergarten - 8:15 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Parents may drop off their child to their classroom 30 minutes prior to the start time.
Complimentary Extended Care is available from 7:30 a.m.-7:45 a.m.
Does my child need to be potty trained?
Yes. All children need to be fully potty trained before they begin school. Diapers or pull ups are not permitted.
Is there a program for the summer months?
Yes, our Summer Day Camp program runs from June through September.
What supplies does my child need for school and Extended Care?
We ask that parents provide an appropriate book bag, a pocket folder, a small bottle of white glue, a paint shirt, and an extra change of clothing in a zip lock bag.
Extended Care students will also need a small blanket labeled with their name for nap time (the school will provide the cot sheets for a small fee).
Do you have transportation assistance?
Yes. We have an extensive carpool list that can be obtained from the school receptionist. In addition to the carpool list, bus transportation is available to K5 students for drop-off in the morning only through District 54. Forms for this can be picked up in the school office.
